WHOIS is a protocol that makes it an easy task to see the information a particular domain name has been registered with through a command line or with the help of special web-based lookup sites. This information includes the names, address and email address of the owner, administrator, tech and billing persons plus the registrar company the domain name has been obtained through, the creation and expiration dates. Apart from a few country-code TLDs that have specific limitations, the WHOIS information of any Internet domain can be changed freely whenever you want, which is quite necessary considering that according to the policies of the top-level Internet Corporation, ICANN, all details have to be current and legitimate at all times. Failure to conform with these policies may lead to losing the ownership of a domain address and in many cases a domain address might even be deleted from the Domain Name System and released for free registration.
